  This was an amazing experience in all facets of the journey, beginning with the super-welcome of Eduard. I felt immediately a part of the crew, was able to contribute to the observation efforts and the wellbeing on board, and had plenty of opportunities for leisure activities, like snorkeling in lagoons or hiking in the rainforest. Eduard is a real scientist, with contributions to the understanding of marine mammal life - especially fin whales in the Mediterranean and humpback whales on the West African shoreline - that span over more than two decades. A real expert, being heard by all stakeholders (governments, NGOs, industry). Even though we saw only a handful of whales during one week, it was great to participate in the whale observation, and to see the passion and scientific rigor of its execution. Thanks to Eduard for his openness and hospitality. And thanks to Alex for the friendship on board. Viva a São Tome e Principe!

  I had the great pleasure of joining Edward Maktup and his team on their catamaran to accompany the humpback whale research project. The stay was wonderful – the hospitality on board was warm, the atmosphere was relaxed, and living on the catamaran was an unforgettable experience. Edward was an excellent host. He took great care of the meals, was always happy to answer questions, and explained in detail what goes on behind the scenes of such a research project. It was fascinating to see how much dedication, organization, and passion it takes to protect whales and preserve marine biodiversity. I truly enjoyed my time there and would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in animal protection or marine conservation.
