About the project

Partners For Conservation aims to preserve a biodiversity legacy through promotion, protection and conservation. To do so, PFC in collaboration with local communities implement four projects:
1. Environmental Education whereby we lead the youth into conservation activities such as tree planting and conservation dialogues
2.Education-based tourism whereby we offer local and international travelers including tourists, volunteers, interns and researchers an opportunity to gain the local experience while making a sustainable impact on a Rwanda society while in the same time contributing to the promotion, protection and conservation of the national biodiversity through volunteering, internship, capstone/practicum, scientific tourism,
3. Community Empowerment and Entrepreneurship this including our support to adult literacy, support to livelihood, community tourism development, modern weaving and sewing.
4. Public Health to support mobilizations of local community members on social and health issues, menstruation health management whereby we train women and young girls in making reusable pads

About the homestay

Partners For Conservation approach lies in a frank and harmonious collaboration with local communities simply because we believe in their innate ability/ qualities to promote, protect and conserve our environment. As we do for our staffing strategy whereby we rather source community members capable to lead others to serve the liaison, we also work with our beneficiaries to develop their capacities in terms of hospitality. This followed our 1st experience whereby we had over 24 interns which we could not afford to accommodate. Since then we keep identifying households to partner with us for homestay development. To be eligible, each household must have at least one member who speaks another language than the local one, have at least one spare room, have a washroom built-in respect to national policies ( roofed, with a door and cement. Power and water must be not far than 500 meters. Partner households are mostly located in areas where we do have activities mostly in the vicinity of protected areas. This offers our guests a myriad of options for what to see during their free time.
The minimum stay is 6 nights.

Emmanuel BUGINGO is the Executive Director and Founder of Partners For Conservation, a local non for profit organization registered in Rwanda as a non-governmental organization.
Prior to founding Partners For Conservation, Emmanuel BUGINGO worked for governmental and non-governmental institutions such as; the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, local and international NGOs such as Care International, Concern World Wide, and The Gorilla Organization. He has over 20 years of experience in management and leadership positions which deal with: Action against social injustice, the inclusion of the poor, working with vulnerable and marginalized communities. Including communities in the decision making process through the mitigation of park-people conflicts by developing preventive and restorative actions that benefit the communities most affected by the creation of national parks.
During his tenure at The Gorilla Organization, Emmanuel BUGINGO, developed a frank, harmonious and responsible partnership between the NGO and the Government of Rwanda through the park management authorities. This partnership saw the two parties develop joint ventures for the sustainability of mountain gorillas and their habitat through protection, conservation and tourism programs. Most of the ventures led to the implementation of current tools used for conservation and tourism at national and regional levels. These include community conservation strategy, environmental education strategy, community-based tourism strategy etc.
