More awareness for health problems in Rwanda!
Rwanda Village Community Promoters (RVCP) is a non-profit, youth-led NGO run by students at the University of Rwanda (UR). RVCP was founded in 1998 and started field work in the Huye district of southern Province of Rwanda in 2000. Since then, RVCP has expanded its community outreach and activities to include Kigali, eastern and northern Province of Rwanda. Working with students and local volunteers is a key part of the foundation upon which RVCP is built.
Furthermore, our organisation fosters an atmosphere of cultural exchange and skill sharing by working alongside international volunteers. We are currently working on different projects aiming to develop the skills and knowledge of the Anti-HIV/AIDS Clubs in villages in Southern Province of Rwanda and scaling up malaria control interventions and decreasing the number of malaria deaths. Also, we work on gender empowerment in supporting young girls who are often burdened with household duties such as cooking and caring for younger siblings which leads to their poor performance in schools. The girls are often pained by lack of self-confidence and in extreme cases by unwanted pregnancy or HIV/AIDS infection. Last but not least we are also improving the hygiene and water sanitation in villages by building sanitary installations.
We have a guesthouse with four beds with full bunk bed each, a shared kitchen, bathrooms, showers with hot water, a fully furnished living room, and free WIFI. Places to visit include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Kimironko market, the Kigali convention center, the Inema arts center, the Kigali library, the Century cinema-Kigali, night clubs, the Horseback zip line.
The RVCP provides the opportunity for you to participate in activities in local communities which include raising awareness for sexually transmittable diseases and prevention of teenage pregnancies in high schools through trainings and mentoring. We also make trainings on proper nutrition methods to mothers at local clinics to prevent malnutrition on infants. Apart from this we run various other projects countrywide whom volunteers at Kigali are allowed to participate in. Specifically, we value individuals with experience in health, agriculture (permaculture and bio-intensive methods), program management, business (social enterprise), monitoring and evaluation, research, video documentary, grant-writing, and financial sustainability.
Touristic tours are made with our local students volunteers and they include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Kimironko market, the Kigali convention center, the Inema arts center, the Kigali library, the Century cinema-Kigali, night clubs and the Horseback zip line.
