Thailand – Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary

Working with local communities to bring elephants home to the forest.

Three meals are included.
Guided tours.
Double room.

About the project

There are more than 3,700 captive elephants in Thailand, most of whom are living in inadequate conditions with incorrect care and lack of freedom. Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary recognizes that this is not the right environment for elephants, which is why we are working towards bringing as many elephants as possible back to their natural habitat as well as raising awareness about the captive elephant situation. We work alongside our elephant owners, our community, our research partners and other organizations to try to bring about a brighter future for all captive elephants. If you want to have a unique experience of hiking in the forest to find the elephants everyday and observe their natural behaviors in their home environment, then you have found the right place. Come and join us for the experience of a lifetime.

About the homestay

Our accommodation is very simple but comfortable. Guests will be staying with a host family in a homestay where you will be provided with your own room that will consist of a mattress on the floor, a mosquito net and a bathroom with a cold shower (perfect for after a hike!) although a hot shower is available depending on the water pressure. All homestays vary in shapes and sizes depending on the homestay allocated, some with squat toilets and some with western style toilets. Homestays will provide a Thai packed lunch and dinner in their home whereas a basic western breakfast will be provided at our communal base hut where our visitors hang out during free time.
