About your accomodation
The accommodation is located on the grounds of the tropical station, right on the edge of the Piedras Blancas National Park.
The Tropical Station has a total of 6 buildings: the main building and reception, 2 accommodation buildings (Casa Matula and Casa Nueva), the Comedor (kitchen and dining veranda) and the research workshop with adjoining lecture hall.
You will be accommodated in one of the two accommodation buildings.The shared rooms are simply furnished, but cozy and clean and can accommodate up to eight people thanks to the bunk beds.The bathrooms are equipped with barrier-free shared showers and toilets.Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are included in the price.
The garden surrounding the buildings on the ward provides relaxation and recreation...

The Tropical Station La Gamba is a research, teaching and training institution of the University of Vienna located at the edge of the rainforest in Costa Rica. Located in one of the most species-rich lowland rainforests in Central America, it offers ideal conditions for field research, courses and seminars.
The tropical station makes a significant contribution to the study of tropical rainforests, stimulates interest in rainforest conservation and research, and offers students and nature enthusiasts the opportunity to deepen their understanding of nature in the rainforest.

Due to the close proximity to the National Park and the village of La Gamba, exciting excursions can be made. For this purpose we have compiled some half and full day tours that can be undertaken directly from the station.

How to get there
The tropical station is located near the Pacific coast in southwestern Costa Rica, in the province of Puntarenas, 8 km NNW of the town of Golfito.It belongs to the small village of La Gamba and is only 4 kilometers away from the Interamerican Highway (Panamericana).The nearest city is Golfito, which also has an airport that is served by the capital San José.
