About your accomodation

Nestled in the mystic Sri Lankan countryside, 10.5 km (10 Minutes) from the Habarana town, Galkadawala is a FOREST RETREAT consisting of 2 treehouse like bungalows and a campsite with a treehouse.

1st Bungalow consists of 3 rooms and 2nd bungalow has 2 rooms. Each room can be made into single, double, twin, triple or family room as required. All rooms are with attached bathrooms, electricity, hot water, large canopy type mosquito nets (for an insect free sleep), fans, Wi-Fi and a comprehensive library on Sri Lankan culture, history and wildlife.

Galkadawala, is constructed mainly by reusing “used building materials” like used timber, doors, windows, bricks, roofing tiles, even discarded industrial trunking.Consumption of power has been reduced considerably by sensitive use of natural light and ventilation for cooling...

Galkadawala is my passion. I left the “rat race” in 2006 to pursue my passion. It all started with the reforestation of a small plot of land in the center of the “cultural triangle” of Sri Lanka.
The land that we reforested was discovered in 2006, a land that had been deforested and destroyed by chena (slash and burn) cultivation. Our aim was to transform this barren patch into a jungle shelter and create a haven for guests to enjoy in an environment where humans and nature live together in harmony and where animals, birds, reptiles and insects also have their appropriate place.

Our lodge is mainly built by reusing “second-hand building materials” such as used wood, doors, windows, bricks, roof tiles and even discarded industrial sewers. Electricity consumption has been significantly reduced through the sensitive use of natural light and ventilation for cooling. The “open concept” architectural design
