Kai Pacha took over El Eden, a reserve with a handful of animals her father had. She began to engage with wildlife until she made her protection a way of life and a full-time job.
The project started when animals rescued from captivity – many of them kept as pets – arrived at Pumakawa. Since they couldn’t return to the wild, they were given a space to live as close as possible to their natural habitat. Soon, people from the community began bringing in injured animals, which led to the creation of a small care area for rehabilitation. Over time, a large enclosure was built to house a puma that had been displaced from the mountains by human activity. That moment marked the beginning of the puma becoming the symbol of the reserve.

Over time, almost organically, educational talks for schools were introduced. These later evolved into the Aula Abierta al Sol project. From there, the mission expanded, giving rise to new initiatives: a native plant seed bank for reforestation & the protection of biodiversity, community programs on recycling & waste separation, the rescue & care of wild birds, & the promotion
