Impact

At the southern end of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania, an initiative is underway to create one of Europe’s largest wilderness landscapes south of the Arctic Circle. With a backbone of more than 1 million hectares of protected areas already in place, rich wildlife, large intact forests, a high concentration of biodiversity, relatively intact wild landscapes, wild rivers, and large areas of mosaic vegetation largely shaped by traditional farming and grazing practices, there is a unique opportunity to realise this vision.

By traveling with us, you are supporting vital conservation efforts in these landscapes, helping to protect and restore natural habitats. Your journey also boosts local economies and empowers entrepreneurs, fostering sustainable development. Additionally, you contribute to the preservation of cultural and natural heritage, raise awareness, and help conservation through eco-friendly travel practices.

FAQ

Who can participate?

No prior experience is required to join this experience. You should have a basic level of physical fitness and be able to spend time outdoors. Make sure you bring suitable clothing for the season. If you have a physical or mental limitation, participation is possible with prior consultation with the project coordinators. Please just consider that the bison are wild animals & act accordingly with respect. Your experienced guide will tell you more about how to behave & interact.

How to get there?

The best option is to come to Timisoara. Timisoara is around 2.5 hours by car. The transfer from & back to Timisoara is included in the price. We can pick you up at the airport or the train station. You can also explore this beautiful city prior or after your stay, we highly recommend it.

Can I extend my stay?

For sure, if you'd like to explore more of Romania's wilderness, we can organize 3 more days in the Retezat National Park. We can highly recommend this if you have some more time & love hiking or would love to dive deeper into this wonderful landscape with alpine lakes & stunning karst plateaus. This is also part of the rewilding efforts & you contribute to more wilderness in Europe. Just let us know & we would be happy to help.

Where will I stay?

You will stay in a wonderful family-owned ecolodge. Breakfast will be included & you get the chance to connect with the locals & learn more about the region.
